Event Details

Discover time-efficient strategies that integrate reading and writing instruction, allowing you to address state standards while building student motivation, confidence, and understanding!

In this 15-hour course, participants will read an important resource book and explore classroom-tested, research-based instructional strategies. As teachers align new ideas with their curriculum, experienced classroom teachers will help to identify supplementary resources that participants may use at their school sites. Together, everyone will discover better ways to address state standards and help all students become successful writers.

MEETING TIME AND LOCATION:

Teachers will meet from 9:00 a.m. - noon on the following dates in July:

Five mornings in July: 7/7 (Wed.), 7/9 (Fri.), 7/13 (Tues.), 7/14 (Wed.), 7/15 (Thurs.)

The first two meetings will be held at Manteca Public Library (see address and map in right column).
The last three meetings will be held at the home of Michelle Crippen: 784 Heartland Drive, Manteca.

FREE ENROLLMENT for local teachers!

Community fundraising efforts allow us to offer these study groups at far below actual costs.

The $50 registration fee (payable at the opening session) will be fully refunded to teachers from Manteca, Ripon, and SJ County-operated schools who complete course requirements! GVWP Teacher Consultants also qualify for the registration refund. Teachers from other districts are invited to register online; they will be charged the $50 registration fee, payable at the opening session of the class.

COURSE TEXT: To supplement existing materials, a wide variety of classroom resource books will be available for checkout from the library, but all participants will read and discuss the following text:
Lynne Dorfman & Stephanie Cappelli. Mentor Texts: Teaching Writing Through Children's Literature, K-6

MATERIALS FEE: A materials fee of $25.00 will be collected at the opening session of the class. (When you register online, you will be asked if you already own the text for your grade level. If you own the text, your materials fee is just $10.00.)

One unit of extended education credit will be available for purchase from CSU Stanislaus.
